Just FYI: The National Center for Science Education was heavily involved in the response to Comfort, from debating him on the US News & World site, to posting some, um, instructional videos on YouTube. Check out our dedicated site to Comfort's "campaign" at: www.dontdissdarwin.com

Good post. Particularly it's Comfort's dishonesty that disturbs me. It's underhanded, if not altogether wrong, for a Christian (or anyone) to misrepresent his intentions, which are to convince others of the accuracy of his own thoughts. I also consider it cowardice to not afford others the opportunity to decide for themselves whether or not to engage in the whole process.

In addition, I have to wonder why a Christian individual (or group), with so much money to spend, would choose to spend it in this way. Is this attempt at "reaching" individuals interested in evolution (or a free book) the best use of these funds? Might this money have been better spent sharing God's love with others? Or at least in an attempt to articulate the gospel itself, rather than creationism?

Sad.

I cringe when I see fellow believers pull these kinds of stunts. It only advances the cause of atheism by making Christians look like clowns as well as hypocrites. Last time I checked my Bible, deceit was still a sin.

Yeah, I saw this yesterday too, and just because I knew already who Ray Comfort was, I was instantly suspicious when I saw his name on the bottom. Agree particularly with the lack of honesty & manipulative ploy argument you make. Not helpful.

And, of course, not helpful at all to have guys who are absolutely not experts in any way in any scientific field speaking into an academically-grounded debate.
